Man-Riding Griphoist Machines Information
The Griphoist machine is a multipurpose wire rope machine, the originality of which is in the jaw mechanism. As opposed to traditional winches where the wire rope winds around a drum, the wire rope is pulled through the machine by the two pairs of self-gripping jaws which grip the wire rope without deforming it.
For suspended cradles and platforms, the Griphoist machine gives: smooth operation - constant effort - unlimited height - complete safety.
For additional safety, it is recommended that a Blocstop secondary safety device is used in conjuction with Griphoist machines on suspended cradles and platforms, safeguarding any possible failure in the machine.
A range of automatic Blocstops is available when secondary safety ropes are required for maximum protection.
The Blocstop is a pair of Griphoist jaws, hence it can be pushed up the rope freely but will lock onto the rope on descent. A jaw opening lever is fitted to the Blocstop which is held open when descending. The recommended method of descent using a Blocstop, is to lower the Griphoist normally leaving the Blocstop locked on the rope until the Blocstop Anchor sling is almost taut. The Blocstop is then released and pulled down until it is in contact with the rope of the Griphoist machine. This operation is continued until the descent is completed.
